Male Breast Reduction (gynecomastia)

Are you a man with too much tissue around your breast area? Breast reductions aren’t just for women but can be carried out on men too. Excess of tissue around the breast in men can be uncomfortable, embarrassing and sometimes painful. Enlarged breast tissue in men is known as gynecomastia. It can cause bad posture and can even affect what you choose to wear.

Thankfully, male breast reduction surgery can free you from the discomfort and embarrassment of the condition. In some instances, men would look to having this surgery because of excess skin in the breast area after significant weight loss.

When a breast reduction is carried out on a male it’s called gynecomastia surgery, an increasingly popular operation. Many men feel ashamed at having excess tissue in their breasts, which can be caused by an imbalance of hormones and also by pseudogynecomastia, a condition whereby the body deposits breast tissue in the breast area.

The surgery is carried out under a general anaesthetic. The operation generally requires the surgeon to make an incision around the nipple before using liposuction to remove any excess fatty tissue. The surgeon may need to extend the cuts and re-position the nipples in instances where there is a lot of tissue to remove.
