Paul Townsend has been a Consultant Plastic Surgeon since 1979, having obtained his medical degree in 1963. Until his retirement from the NHS in 2005, he was the Senior Consultant Plastic Surgeon at Frenchay Hospital in Bristol.
At a national level, he has been the Regional Specialty Representative of Plastic Surgery for the Royal College of Surgeons, a Council Member of the British Association of Plastic Surgeons and has been on the Editorial Board of the British Journal of Plastic Surgery.
Paul Townsend has a particular interest in skin cancer. He founded and ran the skin cancer clinic at Frenchay Hospital from its inception in 1992 and he continues to be a member of the Melanoma Study Group. He was a very active Chairman of SCARF (Skin Cancer Research Fund). Paul Townsend now brings his extensive experience and skills to Bristol Plastic Surgery where he now concentrates on the diagnosis and treatment of Skin Cancer.
