Nigel Mercer enjoys an excellent reputation in the performing of all aesthetic / cosmetic procedures. Nigel has a national reputation for being an expert in face lifting and has developed his own 'short scar' technique. He has been commended as one of the best facelift surgeons in the United Kingdom (Dr Mark Porter, in Sainsbury's Magazine February 2008). He also has expertise in rhinoplasty and is one of the founding members of the European Rhinoplasty Society.
He gained his medical degree from the University of Bristol in 1980 and rapidly followed this by becoming a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons by examination four years later. In the course of his extensive Specialist Plastic Surgery Training he has worked in centres of excellence in London, Glasgow, Bristol and Canada. In 1993 he successfully completed a Masters Degree in Plastic Surgery. He was elected a Fellow of the Royal College of Paediatrics and Child Health in 1997.
Nigel Mercer divides his professional time between Bristol Plastic Surgery and his NHS practice where he is the Senior Consultant in Plastic Surgery at the North Bristol Trust. On top of his extensive experience in all areas of plastic surgery he has special training in the surgical care of children with Cleft Lip and Palate. This gives him an acute and sympathetic awareness of the importance of appearance and requires a detailed understanding of facial anatomy and development.
In addition to his clinical roles, Nigel Mercer has served both his Profession and the Public in the office of President of The British Association of Aesthetic Plastic Surgeons (BAAPS). During his time he was greatly involved in working to safeguard patients who were increasingly being exploited by commercially motivated Cosmetic Clinics especially those using dubious promotions and untrained staff in the consultation process. He is the incoming President of BAPRAS for 2015 - 16.
Nigel Mercer has joined the Aesthetic Surgery Commitment or ASC assurance scheme supported by BAAPS.
